Dominican Republic Travel

If you’re looking for a tropical getaway, and you want to get out of the United States (sorry Hawaii!), you might want to look at the Dominican Republic. Attached to Haiti, this country offers tourists a number of ways to enjoy themselves, relax, and simply get away from the rush of the real world. In fact, you might just want to hide yourself in this country after staying a few days. To make the most of your Dominican Republic vacation, here are some things you need to do.

Visit the Local Parks

While it might be your normal plan to go shopping as soon as you land in a foreign country, why not explore the natural terrain first? It will help you get in shape for the shopping malls and the souvenir shops. Some of the parks in the Dominican Republic include:

  • Armando Bermudez National Park
  • Jaragua National Park
  • Jose Del Carmen Ramirez National Park
  • Los Haitises National Park
  • Monte Cristi National Park
  • National Park Isla Cabritos
  • Parque Nacional del Este
  • Parque Historico La Isabela
  • Sierra del Bahoruco National Park

These parks offer tourists a chance to see the natural tropical environment of the Dominican Republic, while also helping you get out of your hotel room and into a new place. Take some time to walk the trails and to visit the different visitor stations at these parks to make the most of your travel adventure.

Lay on the Beach

Of course, with all of that coastline, heading to the beach is a must. With crystal blue waters (like EVERY tropical island, it seems) and white beaches, you can lay out and perfect your tan. Or you can slather on the highest level of sunscreen you own and pretend to get a tan. Whatever works. You can find a number of public beaches along the highways along the coast. Try out a few of the beaches to ensure you can find the one with the best view for you as well as some blanket space for your family.

Try Out the Foods

You can’t go to a new country and just eat what you can eat at home. In the Dominican Republic, you need to try out foods like:

  • Rice
  • Tropical fruits
  • Caribbean dishes
  • Rum (not a food, but it could be a great lunch)

You want to expose yourself to as many possible tastes as possible. And even if the food looks scary, try it anyway. You will find yourself pleasantly surprised. Take some time to find local restaurants where the crowds are light and the locals are eating. You want to find out what the real people eat, not just what tourists are trying out.

The Dominican Republic offers visitors a relaxing getaway from the normal schedule of work and other responsibilities. Though you might not do a lot more than drink and lay on the beach, what else is vacation for?
